Accessibility Statement
Everyone should be able to read and use our mortgage guides. Here is what we do, and where we still fall short.
Last updated
The Mortgage Guide Hub is for everyone who is trying to understand a home loan. That includes people who use screen readers, keyboards, magnifiers or other assistive technology, and people who read best in a language other than English.
Our commitment
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. WCAG is the widely used international standard for accessible websites. We treat accessibility as part of how we build and write every page, not as an add-on.
What we have done
These are the main measures in place across the site:
- Large, readable type. Body text is set at a comfortable size with generous line spacing.
- Color contrast. Text and controls are designed to meet WCAG AA contrast levels in both the light and dark themes.
- Keyboard navigation. You can reach every link, menu, form and button with a keyboard alone.
- Skip link. A “skip to content” link lets keyboard and screen-reader users jump past the menu.
- Visible focus outlines. The item you are on is clearly outlined when you move through the page with a keyboard.
- Reduced motion. If your device is set to reduce motion, we turn off non-essential animation.
- Screen-reader labels. Buttons, icons, forms and navigation have text labels that screen readers can announce.
- Zoom to 200%. Pages can be zoomed to 200% without losing content or function.
- Clear structure. Each page uses one main heading and ordered section headings, so you can move around by heading.
- Plain language. We write short sentences and explain each term the first time we use it.
- Multilingual content. Guides are available in English, Spanish, Simplified Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean and Tagalog, and each page declares its language so screen readers pronounce it correctly.
Known limitations
We know some parts of the site are not yet perfect:
- Wide data tables. Some comparison tables have several columns. On small screens they scroll sideways instead of fitting the screen. The table content is still available to screen readers.
- Chinese and Korean fonts. How Chinese and Korean text looks depends on the fonts installed on your device. On some older devices the text may look different from what we intended.
- Linked official documents. Many of our sources are documents published by government agencies and other organizations, often as PDFs. We do not control how accessible those documents are.
We are working to improve these areas.
